Two-day intensive workshop for auditioning and stage performance
but also for teachers, leaders and public figures in general
February 26th and 27th - 2011
10.00am to 4.00pm
Chicago, IL
What has an audience sitting on the edge of their seats in anticipation, neglecting
wrist watch glancing and thoughts of dinner plans?
Why are sporting events and athletes often more dynamically captivating than theatre
and its actors?
One of the greatest misconceptions in theatre training is that actors need to focus on releasing all tension to free themselves to perform. The opposite is true. All great theatre is made of dramatic tension and conflict that the performer must embody in order to resonate the essence of the story.
In fact, when an actor’s body isn’t engaged the whole drama becomes deflated and uninteresting, but when an actor has a charged physical engagement and brings its pedestrian presence into a different level of (in)tension, then the audience becomes immediately interested.
In this two-day intensive workshop, Paola will lead participants back into the body through the experience and discovery of the performer’s theatrical Presence, heightened artistic Focus, levels of (In)tension, Rhythm and Tempo in movement, all leading to an essential dimension of dramatic play that involves the whole body. Once experienced, this emotional and expressive journey becomes a permanent point of reference for actors of any theater style.
